The following board members were present: Amy Brinkman (via phone), Gustav Swanson, Sally Hightower Lippin, Mickey Puig (via phone), Kermit Ferrer.  Attending Guest: Jeffrey Saadeh  – VLP MW2020 Committee Chair

    • Draft a 150-200 word document on how VLP and the Alexander Family is linked together. As mentioned each neighborhood is entitled to space in the booklet

    • Choose 2 pictures that illustrate the above connection. The family has sent me photos from their collection including one of the House of Tomorrow under construction and one of Robert and Helene having coffee in the living room. Both of these will be included in the booklet so VLP is going to be the most featured neighborhood

Review/Approve Minutes from July 11th meeting

  • Board reviewed and unanimously approved minutes’ the July 11th, 2019 meeting

  • Sally to publish minutes from July 11th, 2019 Board Meeting on-line working with Imagine IT group

 Treasury:

  • Mickey presented Treasurer’s Report – YTD Balance ~$13,000

  • Alexander STAR Go-Fund Me collection to date = $1,350

  • Mickey will work on creating an annual budget to assist board in tracking and forecasting of VLPNO expenses. This would give us a tool to manage funds against known and proposed activities.

PS Historic Preservation Office

  • Ken Lyon from the PS Historic Preservation Office shared informative Historic Preservation Office: Good Things to Know about Historic Properties in Palm Springs powerpoint.

  • Gustav to prepare short message about this powerpoint and work with Sally to post to our website.

 Modernism Week 2020 – VLPNO Planning

  • Special guest: Jeffrey Saadeh

  • Jeffrey joined the call to give an update on MW2020 VLP Tour

  • VLPNO Home Tour Committee has been created

  • Committee members to date:

  • Lead: Jeffrey Saadeh

    1. Co-Lead: Kermit Ferrer

    2. Sally Hightower

    3. Patsy Marino

    4. Allison Sapunor

    5. Bill Lieber

  • Tour theme will be based around the Alexander Construction Company and the star architects: Krisel & Dubois

  • Identification of Homes for the Tour (Min. 6 w/ at least 1 back-up) has begun.

  • Once home selection has been completed. Need to organize tour by MW2020 Curator assigned to VLP: Jade Nelson.

  • Need to create budget

  • Kermit reminded that we should take advantage of the STAR dedication: Theme, Schedule, Selling Tickets at the STAR event which is being held on Friday, Feb. 14

Alexander Family STAR Dedication Event  

  • Recap: STAR to honor Alexander family: George, Mildred, Robert & Helene

    • Event Coordinator: David Hyams

    • Scheduled: Feb. 14th, 2020

  • Kermit communicated with David Hyams about sending in VLP contribution in July

  • Mickey confirmed VLP contribution check was sent to David Hyams.

  • Next Steps for the Alexander STAR Dedication Event

    • Form small group to work with David for VLP’s involvement in this event

      • Board recommended Sheila Cobrin speak for the VLP

    • Draft a 3-4 minute speech

Modernism Week 2020 – VLPNO Planning

  • Kermit reaffirmed that VLPNO had received confirmation from MW2020 committee that our application to host a tour was accepted and they’d given us 1st choice date: Sat. Feb. 15. Confirmation received from MW2020 on June 25th, 2019

  • Kermit subsequently sent message on critical next steps:

    • Creation VLPNO Home Tour Committee

    • Selection of Homes for the Tour (Min. 3 w/ at least 1 back-up). Obviously, we need to establish the 'theme' of our tour. MW2020 requires we arrange tour of homes by Modernism Week curator. Curator assigned to VLP: Jade Nelson.

  • Objective: Need to update our website more frequently

Neighborhood – Social

  • AUGUST Social scheduled for Saturday, August 11th at La Quinta Brewing Co – Palm Springs Tap Room 201 N Palm Canyon

    • Kermit confirmed that they serve wine in addition to beer

    • Amy to bring finger food

  • OCTOBER Next Social scheduled for Wednesday, October 16th. Wednesday before the kick-off of October Mini-Modernism.

    • Amy checked with Tim who said it was ok to host this at the TWIST

    • Amy to work with Bootlegger Tiki to coordinate beverages

    • Amy to draft event message to post. She will request RSVP so we can estimate headcount

Future Meetings

  • NOTE: Board meetings scheduled for the 2nd Thursday of month @ 4:00pm

  • July Meeting: Thursday, September 11th @ 4:00pm.

  • Kermit to send out Calendar Invite to the Board along with a GoToMeeting invite for anyone who might be able to attend in person. Kermit to include Ken Lyon on invite.

  • Parking Lot Item to be revisited during a future Board meeting: Jade mentioned at January 2019 meeting that the Annual VLPNO Meeting date has proven to be unpopular. The Board discussed identifying three (3) alternative dates to send out to the VLPNO neighborhood members to vote on potential date change for the Annual Meeting

    • Amy confirmed that she has reserved the O’Donnell club for our next Annual VLPNO meeting. Pricing will be same as 2018. (2018 costs were higher than prior years.)

    • Board discussed if we should consider another venue given pricing, time to coordinate and possibly even rescheduling to another date. To be discussed at next meeting in August
